Risks of Direct Military Confrontation Between the United States and Russia

The Russian Foreign Minister stated that Moscow agrees with Washington’s responsible stance that direct military confrontation between the United States and Russia must not be allowed. Lavrov, Russia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, stated in a communiqué released on Friday evening:

“The Europeans are frantically eager to pull Ukraine into NATO and prepare for war with Russia. However, Marco Rubio, the U.S. Secretary of State, recently endorsed a responsible approach and clearly stated that direct military confrontation between the United States and Russia must never be permitted. We completely agree with this position.”

According to a report by Sputnik News Agency, the Russian Foreign Minister further stated:

“The fundamental discussions regarding Ukraine between Moscow and Washington, which have been ongoing since the beginning of this year, have been very useful and have yielded results. Thanks to the persistence of U.S. President Donald Trump, the Kyiv regime agreed to our proposal to resume the Istanbul negotiations.”

Lavrov added that American counterparts are aware of the current realities surrounding Ukraine and are attempting to take into account the roots of the crisis.

He further noted:

“The United States can offer an objective assessment of Kyiv’s actions aimed at destroying everything Russian, and this would be a significant step toward progress.”
