Seyed Hashem Oraei, Professor at Sharif University of Technology in Interview with Rokna:
During Hassan Rouhani’s Presidency, They Sold 70 Times the Water Volume of Karun River!” + Video
Rokna Economy: Seyed Hashem Oraei, professor at Sharif University of Technology, in an interview with Rokna’s economic reporter, referred to the failed water projects in the country as an example of governance without accountability, which has wasted the nation’s resources and budget. He emphasized that during Hassan Rouhani’s presidency, deep groundwater resources in Sistan and Baluchestan equivalent to 70 times the volume of the Karun River were sold, but ultimately the project ended in failure.

According to Rokna, Seyed Hashem Oraei, professor at Sharif University of Technology, regarding the country’s water crisis in an interview with Rokna’s economic correspondent, stated that existing statistics indicate there is no accounting or oversight in the country’s water projects. He said: “During Mr. Rouhani’s presidency, the issue of deep water and underground aquifers was raised, and a whole business was opened. A huge amount of water originated from the Hindu Kush mountains, passed through Sistan and Baluchestan, and reached the Persian Gulf.”
He added: “This water was located at a depth of 3,000 meters, amounting to one thousand billion cubic meters annually. In other words, if the annual capacity of the Karun River is 15 billion cubic meters, this water was seventy times that of the Karun River. However, this water was sold to the officials at the time, and in Zabol, with enormous expenses, four wells of 3,000 meters depth were drilled, but in the end, the project did not succeed. This is one example that shows the quality of governance must be highlighted, not the consumption of the people!”
