Poll: US Voters Split over Whether Trump Should Be Allowed to Run in 2024

Fifty-one percent of registered voters in the Feb. 12-15 survey said Trump should be banned from seeking future office.

By contrast, 49 percent of respondents said he should be allowed to run for president again.

The most recent poll comes as the former president was impeached by the House for his role in the Jan. 6 Capitol riots before which he gave a speech on the National Mall encouraging his supporters to march to the Capitol building and demand that Congress halt the certification of US President Biden's Electoral College victory.

Critics of the president have argued that following the riots, the former president should be impeached and disqualified from holding office again.

Eighty-three percent of Republican voters said Trump should be allowed to run for president again, while 17 percent said he should be banned from running for office.

Eighty percent of Democratic voters said Trump should be banned from seeking office, while 20 percent said he should be allowed to run again.

Fifty-seven percent of independent respondents said Trump should be banned from running for office in the future, and 43 percent said he should be allowed to make a 2024 bid.

The survey also found that 53 percent of voters said the Senate should acquit Trump in his second impeachment trial while 47 percent of respondents said he should be convicted.

Last week, following arguments from both sides during the Senate impeachment trial, senators voted to acquit Trump on the charges of inciting the riots at the Capitol building. Seven Republicans joined all Democrats finding Trump guilty of the charge.

The Hill-HarrisX poll was conducted online among 2,835 registered voters. It has a margin of error of 1.83 percentage points.Follow the Official Rokna NEWS Telegram Channel For More and fresh NEWS.
