Man charged after 'tricking woman, 92, into paying £160 for fake Covid-19 vaccine'

A man has been charged after allegedly tricking a 92-year-old woman into paying £160 for a fake Covid-19 vaccine.

David Chambers, 33, appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court to face two counts of fraud by false representation, common assault and two allegations of breaching coronavirus regulations.

Chambers, from Surbiton, south-west London, was remanded in custody and will next appear at Kingston Crown Court on February 12, the City of London Police said.

His alleged victim is said to have allowed him into her home in Surbiton on the afternoon of December 30 after Chambers allegedly said he was there to administer the Covid-19 vaccine.

Chambers is alleged to have charged her £160 before returning on January 4 to ask for another £100.

He denies the charges.

The hearing comes after the public was warned to be on its guard over vaccine scams.

The Local Government Association issued a statement last week highlighting that the Covid-19 vaccine will always be free in the UK and delivered by the NHS.

Patients will be sent a letter by the NHS informing them of their eligibility, and receive a call from Primary Care Networks, offering the choice of booking at a GP-led vaccination centre or using the national booking service.

The LGA is urging people who are contacted to remember that any contact regarding a real NHS COVID-19 vaccination booking will never:

Ask for payment or any bank details

Ask you to press a button on your keypad when on the phone

Ask you to send a text to confirm the booking

Anyone who has concerns about whether an approach is genuine should speak to their local GP surgery.Follow the Official Rokna NEWS Telegram Channel For More and fresh NEWS.
