Alfred Bourgeois executed: Killer uses last words to deny murdering his daughter

The 56-year-old was executed at a federal penitentiary in Terre Haute, Indiana , on December 11.

He was pronounced dead at 8.21pm after receiving a lethal injection.

He was on death row for the killing and torturing of his two-year-old daughter, according to a Justice Department summary of the case.

A report by the Federal Bureau of Prisons said Bourgeois "physically and emotionally tortured, and then beat to death his two-and-a-half-year-old daughter".

In his last words before being killed, the man did not apologise for the crime and denied responsibility.

Bourgeois said: "I ask God to forgive all those who plotted and schemed against me, and planted false evidence.

"I did not commit this crime."

Bourgeois was the 10th death row inmate to be put to death since Donald Trump's administration resumed federal executions in summer.

He was killed the day after Brandon Bernard, a 40-year-old dad who was on death row for the killing of two Christian youth ministers in 1999.

Before being executed on December 10, Bernard apologised for the crime, saying: "I'm sorry.

"That's the only words that I can say that completely capture how I feel now and how I felt that day."

There are no further executions scheduled for 2020, but several are planned for January.
